My flyboy husband and I have four kids, ranging from 20-14 years. We try our best to be good parents, but, well, parenting confession – we totally love TV around here. We have at least one TV running all the time (except during meal time – that’s our absolute sancrosact family time.) In particular, my kids and I enjoy hunkering down for a DVD marathon, working our way through a boxed set. Maybe it’s because we’re such an on-the-go family, when we’re home we like to vedge out in front of the TV (or by the pool with a book.) We watched all of the Heroes DVDs over Christmas holidays. When my daughter had her tonsils out, we watched all the early season episodes of house. And we always wait to watch Lost until it’s out in DVD. One of my all time favorite movie collections though, is the Anne of Green Gables series.
Back when my husband deployed for the first Iraq war, he was part of a six man crew. They had crewed together for a long time prior and we families had all become very close. So while the guys where overseas, we wives (and our kids) got together at least a couple of times a week, ate supper together, shared info from letters we’d received from our hubbies…. and we watched the Anne of Green Gables series. There was something so calming and centering about those gatherings that really helped us all through a tough time.
Since then, we’ve been through more war deployments and long TDY as is to be expected over 20 years of military life. So, I guess it’s just a natural fit that I would write mostly military stories to celebrate the amazing friendships we’ve made over the years.
